HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Parking lot closure for One Community Event RESOLUTION NO. 11-161 RESOLUTION APPROVING PARKING LOT CLOSURE FOR ONE COMMUNITY EVENT FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS,since 2008,the Cityhas j oined with the Government of the Student Body(GSB) to co-sponsor an annual"One Community Event;" and, WHEREAS, this event is held at Fire Station No. 2 near the end of the ISU academic year to wish students well and thank them for a successful year; and, WHEREAS, in the past„ the event has entailed the City providing pizza, water, and entertainment for the students; and, WHEREAS, the City has allocated$1,550 in funding for this year's event; and, WHEREAS, this year, staff has worked with GSB to create a stronger identity and purpose for the One Community Event, and it now calls for a small resource fair to be held on Chamberlain Street with information tables and activities provided by community organizations,City departments, and campus clubs; and, WHEREAS,the event will take place on Friday,April 29,from 5 p.m.until 7 p.m.,and much like the Welcome Back Event, this will require the closing of Chamberlain Street from Stanton Avenue to Welch Avenue from 5 p.m. until approximately 8 p.m.; and, WHEREAS, organizers are requesting the closure of Parking Lot Y and that parking be suspended in the Lot from 2 p.m. until the end of metering hours at 6 p.m.; and, WHEREAS, in addition,the event organizers are requesting access to the electrical outlets in Lot Y at no cost. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the request to close Parking Lot Y on April 29,2011, for the One Community Event is hereby approved,parking meter fees will be waived,and organizers will have access to electrical outlets in Lot Y at no cost.
