RESOLUTION APPROVING RENEWAL CONTRACT FOR
VALVE MAINTENANCE SERVICES FOR POWER PLANT BOILERS
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, the City's Electric Utility has two coal-fired boiler, high-pressure steam
generation units within the Power Plant, referred to as Unit Nos. 7 and 8, and these units require
regular,professional maintenance and repair; and,
WHEREAS, this contract consists of emergency service, as well as regularly scheduled,
planned repairs and services during scheduled outages; and,
WHEREAS,on June 23,2009,the Council awarded a contract to Ferguson Process Services
of Cannon Falls,Minnesota,for valve maintenance services to be furnished as requested from July 1,
2009,through June 30,2010,in an amount not to exceed$115,000,and this contract has the option
for the City to renew in one-year increments for up to five additional years; and,
WHEREAS,Electric Services staff recommends renewing the agreement for 2011/12; and,
WHEREAS, Ferguson Process Services was acquired by Allied Valve,Inc., of Bettendorf,
Iowa, and Allied Valve has agreed to renew this contract with the same terms, conditions,and rates
that was agreed upon on the initial contract the City established with Ferguson Process Services.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the contract renewal with Allied Valve,Inc.,of Bettendorf,Iowa,for valve maintenance,testing,
repair, replacement, and related services and supplies for the one-year period from July 1, 2011,
through June 30, 2012, is hereby approved in an amount not to exceed$55,000.
