RESOLUTION APPROVING AWARD OF CONTRACT FOR
2008/09 STORM WATER FACILITY REHABILITATION(EASTGATE SUBDIVISION)
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS,in accordance with the Municipal Code,new developments within the community are
required to provide stormwater management quantity control,which means that stormwater run-off discharge
must be regulated to pre-developed conditions through extended detention and/or retention; and,
WHEREAS, through developers' agreements,the City of Ames has accepted the responsibility for
the long-term maintenance of many of these facilities, and as these facilities age, sediment accumulates,
vegetation becomes more prevalent, and structures need to be improved; and,
WHEREAS,the 2008/09 Stormwater Facility Rehabilitation Program involves improvements to the
pond at the Eastgate Subdivision in the northwest corner of the intersection of East 13'Street and Dayton
Avenue; and,
WHEREAS, the City hired Clapsaddle-Garber and Associates (CGA) to design the improvements
at this location,and as part of the design requirements,CGA submitted a construction estimate of$49,511.00;
and,
WHEREAS,in accordance with Purchasing Policies and Procedures, since the estimate was below
$50,000, a competitive quotation process was performed; and,
WHEREAS, on January 25, 2011, a Request for Quotes was sent to seven area contractors that are
able to perform the work required; and,
WHEREAS,on February 23,2011,quotations were received and the lowest quote received was from
Con-Struct, Inc., of Ames, Iowa, in the amount of$61,800.00; and,
WHEREAS,the lowest responsive quote came in above the engineer's estimate due to the labor that
is associated with placement of the concrete apron encircling the pond, and this apron will minimize future
maintenance in the area; and,
WHEREAS,the program location is a highly visible gateway to the Ames community,which adds
to the importance of this project; and,
WHEREAS,by awarding this project,the City of Aines will be able to fulfill the requirements of the
detention pond maintenance per the Developer's Agreement.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that award
of contract for the 2008/09 Storm Water Facility Rehabilitation Program(Eastgate Subdivision)to Con-Struct,
Inc., of Ames, Iowa, in the amount of$61,800.00 is hereby approved.
