HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - 2010/11 NIP Grant for DZ Triangle RESOLUTION NO. 11-098 RESOLUTION APPROVING 2010/11 NEIGHBORHOOD IMPROVEMENT PROJECT GRANT FOR RENOVATING DZ TRIANGLE FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, the City Council has appropriated Local Option Sales Tax funds to finance the Neighborhood Improvement Program(NIP); and, WHEREAS,$50,000 has been approved for neighborhood programs,with$25,000 earmarked for the NIP and the remaining$25,000 allocated for a broader array of neighborhood projects to be determined by the City Council; and, WHEREAS,the DZ Triangle Project grant application was scored by the Review Panel on March 17, 2011, and received more than enough points to be recommended for approval by the City Council; and, WHEREAS,the DZ Triangle Project is public space that is located at the intersection of Sunset Drive and Pearson Avenue,and it is a project that is endorsed by the Greek Community and the SCAN Neighborhood Association; and, WHEREAS,the intent is to beautify and strengthen the neighborhood by creating a park-like setting that showcases the Greek Community and invites residents to gather there; and, WHEREAS, the project will consist of pillars, a brick patio, native grasses and shrubs, limestone seating, crushed limestone paths, and park signage; and, WHEREAS,the total cost of the proj ect is$32,3 83.44,with$5,000 being requested from the City;and, WHEREAS,Iowa State University,Iowa State Greek Community,and the Government of the Student Body have committed to providing cash contributions; and, WHEREAS,the Student Society of Landscape Architects and members of the Greek Community will be providing labor. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the expenditure of$5,000 to fund a NIP grant for the DZ Triangle Project is hereby approved.
