RESOLUTION APPROVING SUBMITTAL OF
MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS PLANNING GRANT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS, at its January 20,2011,Joint Funders Meeting,the ASSET Funders approved
the submission of a $50,000 grant request to the Federal Department of Justice for crisis mental
health response planning; and,
WHEREAS, the Funders unanimously approved ASSET's participation in the planning
process should the grant be received,and the grant application requires a minimum 10%local match;
and,
WHEREAS, the local match will be a portion of City staff time, city manager intern time,
and a portion of the salaries of both the United Way of Story County director and the director of
Story County Community services; and,
WHEREAS, the application must be submitted on February 3, 2011; and,
WHEREAS, since the applicant for this grant must be a unit of State government,a County,
or a City, the City of Ames will be the applicant with Council approval; and,
WHEREAS,this is a very critical community need for Ames,Iowa State University,and all
of Story County; and,
WHEREAS, critical mental health issues, particularly attempted suicides, and threatened
suicides are increasing dramatically, and the City is seeing large numbers of residents who are in
need of assessment of various mental disorders.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the submission of the Mental Health Crisis Services Planning Grant to the Federal Department
of Justice is hereby approved
