HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Change to Personnel Policies re: salaries due to voluntary demotions RESOLUTION NO. 11-003 RESOLUTION APPROVING POLICY CHANGE TO PERSONNEL POLICIES AND PROCEDURES REGARDING SALARIES FOR VOLUNTARY DEMOTIONS FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, the Human Resources Department has identified an area of the Personnel Policies and Procedures that needs to be revised; and, WHEREAS,the current language regarding demotions in Chapter allows an employee who voluntarily demotes to a lower position to retain his or her current rate of pay or the maximum salary of the lower classification, whichever is less; and, WHEREAS the existing language only contemplates salary reductions for involuntary demotions; and, WHEREAS, adding additional language that allows for a case-by-case review would give flexibility to further reduce the salary in certain situations, e.g., maintaining internal equity with similar classifications in a department; and, WHEREAS,the revision provides greater flexibility for situations where employees accept voluntary demotions, as opposed to involuntary demotions. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the policy change to the Personnel Policies and Procedures regarding salaries for voluntary demotions is hereby approved.
