RESOLUTION APPROVING ENGINEERING SERVICES AGREEMENT FOR
2010/11 COLLECTOR STREET PAVEMENT IMPROVEMENTS
(STORM STREET FROM ASH AVENUE TO HAYWARD AVENUE)
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,this is the annual program for reconstruction or rehabilitation of collector streets,
and locations are chosen in accordance with the most current street condition inventory, and,
WHEREAS, the 2010/11 project location is Storm Street from Ash Avenue to Hayward
Avenue, and staff has requested engineering proposals for several drainage and street improvements,
including this project; and,
WHEREAS, through this process, the City received 109 proposals from engineering firms,
including 14 proposals for this project; and,
WHEREAS, Veenstra& Kimm, Inc., is being recommended to complete the design for this
project, and its proposal included details about the project design that was reflective of its experience
working in Campustown, including the reconstruction of Welch Avenue and Ash Avenue/Knapp
Street; and,
WHEREAS, services to be performed by the consultant include base survey, evaluation of
construction techniques, preparation of plans and specifications to meet local letting standards,
conducting a public informational meeting, notification/coordination with right-of-way users and
adjacent land owners, and attendance at the pre-construction meeting.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that
the engineering services agreement with Veenstra & Kimm, Inc., of West Des Moines, Iowa, in an
amount not to exceed $72,500.00 for the 2010/11 Collector Street Pavement Improvements (Storm
Street from Ash Avenue to Hayward Avenue) is hereby approved.
