RESOLUTION APPROVING CHANGE ORDER FOR
WIND STORM DEBRIS MULCHING CONTRACT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, on July 18, 2010, the City of Ames was subject to a wind storm that caused
extensive damage to trees on public and private property, and at that time, the City opened a debris
drop-off site to allow citizens to dispose of their storm debris and for City forces to deposit debris that
was picked up from the rights-of-way; and,
WHEREAS, the City went out for bids and awarded a contract to J. Pettiecord, Inc., for the
mulching of the debris and for hauling off debris not used by the public; and,
WHEREAS,the original contract was estimated to cost$45,000 for the mulching and removal
of mulch, and the first mulching was completed and invoiced for a total of$32,000; and,
WHEREAS, after the mulching, it was decided that mulch needed to be removed to allow for
the second grinding operation and to allow for more debris area; and,
WHEREAS,the second mulching has now been completed and along with removal of mulch,
the total work done, to date, is $52,200; and,
WHEREAS, since this amount exceeds $50,000, the City Council is required to approve the
change order for work done; and,
WHEREAS, there will be additional work to remove any remaining mulch at the end of
October, and that invoice will be handled per the City's Purchasing Policy.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that
the Change Order in an amount not to exceed $7,200 for the debris mulching contract with
J. Pettiecord, Inc., is hereby approved.
