HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Performance of maintenance on East 13th Street Resurfacing RESOLUTION NO. 10-448 RESOLUTION DIRECTING STAFF TO PERFORM MAINTENANCE TECHNIQUES FOR EAST 13TH STREET RESURFACING FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, Story County is reconstructing East 13th Street from 570th Avenue to 580th Avenue, and this leaves a section of East 13th Street from I-35 to 570th Avenue within the City limits that is in very poor condition; and, WHEREAS,the City section of East 13th Street is a seal coat road that received an asphalt overly,and the City has done only routine maintenance in previous years because of its pending replacement with the Lifestyle Center; and, WHEREAS,with the previous minimum maintenance work,the condition of East 13th Street is in very poor condition; and, WHEREAS,because of the deteriorated condition of this section of East 13th Street,staff has indicated that it would not be advisable to wait another year to allow time to appropriate funds in the budget to fix this road section or wait until the Lifestyle Center is constructed; and, WHEREAS,therefore,staff has explored a more lasting maintenance fix to the road segment,and it is believed that regular maintenance will not be able to keep the road to the standards that the City strives for;and, WHEREAS,typically,City staff would not request the Council to consider a project of this magnitude that had not been included in the current budget,however,the engineering staff believes more timely action is needed to assure this roadway is driveable; and, WHEREAS,savings from various capital improvement projects funded by General Obligation Bonds have been identified to cover the estimated$185,000 for this project. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,that City staff is directed to perform a more lasting maintenance technique on the portion of East 13th Street that is the City's corporate limits, with the project being paid for with the savings from various capital improvement projects funded by General Obligation Bonds.
