RESOLUTION APPROVING FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS
SECOND PHASE OF FLAT SPACE STUDY
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, on May 12, 2009, the City Council approved the expenditure of $8,300 from the
Hotel/Motel Tax proceeds to partially fund a feasibility study to assess the overall impact of current and future
demands of meetings and conventions in Ames; and,
WHEREAS,this$65,000 study was funded as follows:$40,000-Ames Convention and Visitors Bureau;
$8,333-City of Ames;$8,333-Iowa State University;$8,333 Ames Economic Development Commission;and,
WHEREAS,the results of this report were presented to the public at a meeting in the Scheman Center
on May 12, 2010; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council received a request from Karin Sevde and Dan Krieger from the Ames
Convention and Visitors Bureau that the City contribute an additional $5,000 to perform a facility program
analysis; and,
WHEREAS,this next step will identify actual space needs,location recommendations, and associated
costs for the preferred recommendation; and,
WHEREAS,it is hoped that this$40,000 study will be financed as follows: $20,000-Ames Convention
and Visitors Bureau;$10,000-Iowa State University;$5,000 Ames Economic Development Commission;and,
$5,000 -City of Ames; and,
WHEREAS,the City Council is not being asked at this time to commit to the financing of the ultimate
project that will be recommended,but to help finance the study that will identify the appropriate project that will
improve the viability of our City as a convention and meeting center; and,
WHEREAS, if approved,the $5,000 expenditure will come from the Hotel/Motel Tax receipts; and,
WHEREAS,this approval is conditioned upon the other three entities providing the remaining funding.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the
financial contribution of$5,000 to the Ames Convention and Visitors Bureau for additional funding towards the
second phase of the Flat Space Study is hereby approved.
