HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Agreement for Electromatic Relief Valve Replacement for Power Plant RESOLUTION NO. 10-423 RESOLUTION APPROVING ENGINEERING SERVICES AGREEMENT FOR MISCELLANEOUS BOILER PROJECTS II AT THE POWER PLANT (PROJECT 2: ELECTROMATIC RELIEF VALVE REPLACEMENT) FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,there are three upcoming projects affecting Electric Services'boilers located at the Power Plant, and staffhas consolidated the required engineering services portions ofthese projects into a single Request for Proposal (RFP); and, WHEREAS,a single RFP allows staff to procure these services more efficiently since each project requires similar qualifications from engineering firms; and, WHEREAS,on July 13,2010,the Proposal document was issued to ten firms,and on August 13,staff received competitive proposals for engineering services from five firms for Project 1 and from six firms for Projects 2 and 3; and, WHEREAS,the proposals were evaluated and scored,and the evaluations were based on price,experience, and qualifications; and, WHEREAS,Project 2 provides for engineering services for the Electromatic Relief Valve Replacement located in the Unit No. 8 boiler; and, WHEREAS,this valve system has been problematic for manyyears,and staffwants an improved,more reliable valve installed in place of the electromatic valve; and, WHEREAS, the engineer shall make a recommendation to staff for a replacement valve and valve control system that can perform the function and duty of the existing valve,but with significantly improved reliability; and, WHEREAS, the scope of work requires the engineering firm to provide technical specifications and an engineer's cost estimate; and, WHEREAS,staff recommends that a contract be awarded to Burns&McDonnell of Chesterfield,Missouri, in an amount not to exceed$24,000.00. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council ofthe City ofAmes,Iowa,that the Engineering Services Agreement for Miscellaneous Boiler Projects II at the Power Plant for Project 2:Electromatic Relief Valve Replacement with Burns & McDonnell of Chesterfield, Missouri, in an amount not to exceed $24,000 is hereby approved.
