HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Contract for MGMC Steam Supply System RESOLUTION NO. 10-386 RESOLUTION APPROVING ENGINEERING SERVICES CONTRACT FOR MGMC STEAM SUPPLY SYSTEM FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,there are upcoming projects affecting Electric Services'boilers located at the Power Plant,and staff consolidated the required engineering services portions of these projects into a single Request for Proposal(RFP);and, WHEREAS, a single RFP allows staff to procure these services more efficiently since each project requires similar qualifications from engineering firms; and, WHEREAS, the City reserves the option to award the contract in whole or in parts, depending upon the evaluated scores for each firm on each project listed in the RFP; and, WHEREAS, on July 7, 2010,the RFP was issued to twelve firms, and on July 27, staff received competitive proposals for engineering services from six firms; and, WHEREAS,the proposals were sent to an evaluation committee,with members independently evaluating and scoring all six of the Proposals, and the evaluations were based on price,experience, and qualifications; and, WHEREAS, Project 1 provides for Engineering Services for Mary Greeley Medical Center(MGMC) Steam Supply System; and, WHEREAS,the City currently supplies steam to MGMC from the Power Plant,and the hospital uses the steam for heating,humidification, sterilization, and food preparation; and, WHEREAS,due to pipe corrosion,MGMC plans to replace the mile-long steam and condensate lines from the Power Plant to the hospital; and, WHEREAS,the scope of work requires the engineering firm to:review and/or develop steam alternatives to the hospital;develop a condensate return system to protect the Power Plant condensate contamination and erratic return flow; recommend a conceptual design;prepare technical specifications;provide a detailed cost estimate;collaborate with the City for the evaluation and selection process for all equipment and services;and,administer the installation contract;and, WHEREAS, based on the averaged scores and a unanimous decision by the evaluation committee, staff recommends that a contract be awarded to Burns&McDonnell of Chesterfield,Missouri, in an amount not to exceed $83,236.00. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the engineering services contract with Burns&McDonnell for the Mary Greeley Medical Center Steam Supply System in an amount not to exceed$83,236.00 is hereby approved.
