RESOLUTION SETTING THE PROJECT
DISADVANTAGED BUSINESS ENTERPRISES(DBE)
GOAL FOR 2009/10 AIRPORT IMPROVEMENTS PROGRAM
(REHABILITATION OF TAXIWAY A)
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,the 2009/10 Capital Improvements Plan includes a project for the rehabilitation of
Taxiway A and various storm sewer replacements at the Ames Municipal Airport; and,
WHEREAS,although the City has continued to perform preventative maintenance throughout the
years,the Taxiway has deteriorated to the pont that full reconstruction is required; and,
WHEREAS,on October 29,2009,the City received official notice from the FAA to initiate this
project, and report of bids was received on May 5, 2010; and,
WHEREAS, after receipt of the bids, the City applied for a Federal Aviation Administration
(FAA)grant based on the actual project costs as shown in the successful bid; and,
WHEREAS, HWS, the consulting engineers, has completed survey and preliminary design
following FAA guidance to create an updated project cost,and the total estimated cost for this project is
$1,296,379; and,
WHEREAS,the FAA's portion ofthis project is$1,231,560(95%)andthe City's share is$64,819
(5%),which will be paid from the Airport Construction Fund; and,
WHEREAS,use of FAA funding requires that each project set its own specific targeted goal for
use of DBE, and this goal is set as a percentage of the total project cost; and,
WHEREAS,based upon a project of this size, it is recommended that the DBE goal be 5%.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that
the Federal Aviation Administration grant offer for the 2009/10 Airport Improvements Program
(Rehabilitation of Taxiway A) at the Ames Municipal Airport is hereby approved.
