RESOLUTION APPROVING
FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION (FAA) GRANT OFFER
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,the 2009/10 Capital Improvements Plan includes a proj ect for the rehabilitation
of Taxiway A and various storm sewer replacements at the Ames Municipal Airport; and,
WHEREAS, although the City has continued to perform preventative maintenance
throughout the years, the Taxiway has deteriorated to the pont that full reconstruction is required;
and,
WHEREAS, on October 29,2009,the City received official notice from the FAA to initiate
this project, and report of bids was received on May 5, 2010; and,
WHEREAS,after receipt of the bids,the City applied for a Federal Aviation Administration
(FAA) grant based on the actual project costs as shown in the successful bid; and,
WHEREAS, HWS,the consulting engineers,has completed survey and preliminary design
following FAA guidance to create an updated project cost, and the total estimated cost for this
project is $1,296,379; and,
WHEREAS, the FAA's portion of this project is $1,231,560 (95%) and the City's share is
$64,819 (5%),which will be paid from the Airport Construction Fund.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the Federal Aviation Administration grant offer for the 2009/10 Airport Improvements Program
(Rehabilitation of Taxiway A) at the Ames Municipal Airport is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 24'h day of August, 2010.
