RESOLUTION APPROVING ENGINEERING SERVICES CONTRACT
FOR PART 3: GT-2 CONTROLS MODIFICATION
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,there are three upcoming projects which affect the Electric Services Department's Gas
Turbine located at the Dayton Substation; and,
WHEREAS, staff consolidated the required engineering services portions of these projects for the
Power Plant into a single Request for Proposal (RFP); and,
WHEREAS,this will allow staff to procure these services more efficiently since each project requires
similar qualifications from engineering firms; and,
WHEREAS, on June 17, 2010,the RFP document was issued to nine firms for proposals, and staff
received competitive proposals from three firms; and,
WHEREAS,these proposals were then sent to a committee for evaluation, and committee members
independently evaluated and scored all three of the proposals in two separate steps; and,
WHEREAS, Project 3, Engineering for GT-2 Controls Modification, is for engineering services to
enable the Power Plant to monitor and control capability for GT-2 and all associated Plant equipment through
a Fanuc PLC from the main Plant control room located 1.5 miles from the GT-2; and,
WHEREAS,the scope ofwork requires the engineering firm to determine and recommend an optimum
method to monitor and control the GT-2 and associated Plant equipment at the GT-2 site from the main Plant
control room for GT-2; and,
WHEREAS,the firm shall provide detailed technical specifications,detailed engineer's estimate,and
a potential bidders list; and,
WHEREAS,staffrecommends that a contract be awarded to Black&Veatch ofKansas City,Missouri,
in an amount not to exceed $24,000.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the
engineering services contract for Part 3: GT-2 Controls Modification with Black&Veatch of Kansas City,
Missouri, in an amount not to exceed$24,000 is hereby approved.
