HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Engineering Services Agreement for Unit Nos. 7 & 8 Cooling Tower Repairs RESOLUTION NO. 10-321 RESOLUTION APPROVING ENGINEERING SERVICES AGREEMENT FOR UNIT NOS. 7 AND 8 COOLING TOWER REPAIRS FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, the main Power Plant cooling towers are in need of repair and replacement of the internal and structural components; and, WHEREAS, these towers have deteriorated from erosion and decay from near continuous operation, and they are used to cool the water that condenses the steam into water after power is generated in the steam turbine; and, WHEREAS,the project is crucial because the Power Plant turbines can not operate without functioning cooling towers,and deficient cooling tower operation directly affects power production and lowers plant operating efficiency; and, WHEREAS,the scope of this work requires an engineering firm to provide detailed technical specifications and detailed engineer's estimates, a potential bidders list for all major equipment purchases,bid evaluations assistance,post contract award administration of the contract, and field management of the contract and contractor during periods of field work; and, WHEREAS, on May 26, 2010, bid documents were issued to eight firms for engineering services proposals, and seven firms submitted competitive proposals; and, WHEREAS, these proposals were evaluated, and staff recommends that an agreement be awarded to Brown Engineering Company of Des Moines, Iowa, in an amount not to exceed $49,600.00. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the Architectural/Engineering Services Agreement with Brown Engineering Company of Des Moines,Iowa,in an amount not to exceed$49,600.00 for Unit Nos. 7 and 8 Cooling Tower Repairs is hereby approved.
