RESOLUTION APPROVING ARCHITECTURAL/ENGINEERING AGREEMENT FOR
CITY HALL HEAT PUMP REPLACEMENT PROJECT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,the 2010/15 Capital Improvements Plan(CIP)contains a City Hall Mechanical
and Structural Improvements project that includes replacement of all 170 heat pump units in the City
Hall and Community Center; and,
WHEREAS,there are the original units that were installed in 1990,and all of the units should
be replaced in order to maintain adequate heating and cooling capacity for the building; and,
WHEREAS, the project is estimated to cost $880,000; and,
WHEREAS,the City's process for selection of professional services was followed, and the
City Council previously authorized staff to negotiate a design contract with Shive-Hattery, Inc., of
West Des Moines, Iowa; and,
WHEREAS,those negotiations led to an agreement,wherein the needed design services can
be procured for a not-to-exceed cost of$47,000; and,
WHEREAS,it is anticipated that the design and construction work will be completed within
the next 10 months, and this contract includes design development, preparation of construction
documents,bidding/negotiations and administration of the construction contract,and miscellaneous
expenses for replacement of 143 heat pumps; and,
WHEREAS,the contract also provides for design and bidding of approximately 30 more heat
pumps to be installed later as part of the Police Department/City Hall Basement renovation project.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the Architectural/Engineering Agreement with Shive-Hattery,Inc.,of West Des Moines,Iowa,
for the City Hall Heat Pump Replacement Project at a cost not to exceed$47,000 is hereby approved,
subject to receipt of approval from the State Historic Preservation Office.
ADOPTED THIS 13th day of July, 2010.
