HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Street closures for Iowa Shrine Bowl Parade RESOLUTION NO. 10-265 RESOLUTION APPROVING TEMPORARY STREET CLOSURES FOR IOWA SHRINE BOWL PARADE FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,the Iowa Shrine Bowl is planning to have the All-Star game in Ames on July 24 at Jack Trice Stadium, and this event has long been recognized as a showcase for Iowa athletes who will be participating at the college level in football this upcoming school year; and, WHEREAS, as part of this event, the Ames Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB) is requesting to temporarily close streets for the parade on July 24,which will help kick off the day's activities; and, WHEREAS, the parade will consist of Shrine units from around the state and is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m., and to facilitate the parade, street closures are necessary at Fifth Street, Douglas Avenue,Main Street,Burnett Avenue,Kellogg Avenue,Clark Avenue,and Pearle Avenue; and, WHEREAS,this parade will last until approximately 11:00 a.m.when the streets and parking areas will be opened to the public, and Shrine Bowl organizers will provide volunteers to post signage and staff barricades at the minor intersection crossings along the route; and, WHEREAS,any fees associated with Police staff in directing traffic will be billed to and paid by the ACVB; and, WHEREAS, the Main Street Cultural District has expressed its support of this event. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the temporary closure of the aforementioned streets for the Iowa Shrine Bowl Parade on July 24, 2010, is hereby approved.
