HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Temporary street closures for Memorial Day Parade RESOLUTION NO. 10-174 RESOLUTION APPROVING TEMPORARY STREET CLOSURES FOR MEMORIAL DAY PARADE FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, each year, the Ames Patriotic Council conducts a community observance of Memorial Day, and this observance involves a parade from City Hall to the Municipal Cemetery followed by a memorial service at the cemetery; and, WHEREAS, the following requested item is presented for Council approval in order to facilitate the Memorial Day observance on Monday, May 31, 2010: temporary closure of Clark Avenue from Fifth Street to Ninth Street; temporary closure of Ninth Street between Clark Avenue and Maxwell Avenue;and,temporary closure of Sixth Street and Duff Avenue as the parade moves through the intersection; and, WHEREAS, it should be noted that temporary closures of residential streets that intersect Ninth Street and Clark Avenue will occur as the parade progresses; and, WHEREAS,most intersection closures will last only for a number of minutes,and the Public Works Department will provide barricades for all of the street closure areas; and, WHEREAS, the Police Department will provide a lead car for the parade and will assist participants through the Sixth Street and Duff Avenue intersection. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the aforementioned temporary street closures for the Memorial Day Parade on May 31, 2010, are hereby approved.
