RESOLUTION APPROVING LAND USE POLICY PLAN FRAMEWORK MAP AMENDMENT
PERTAINING TO THE PROPOSED ROSE PRAIRIE DEVELOPMENT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, Story County Land,LC,has requested that the Land Use Policy Plan(LUPP)designation
for certain property be amended from Priority Transitional Residential to Urban Residential in order to
accommodate the proposed Rose Prairie Development; and,
WHEREAS, Story County Land,L.C.,has also requested that the LU PP designation be amended from
Priority Transitional Residential to Agricultural/Farm Services for the Canterbrooke tract of land located in the
far northwest corner of the site; and,
WHEREAS,the entire area included in the request from Story County Land,L.C.,contains approximately
420 acres and extends north of the city limits to 190`h Street; and,
WHEREAS,the current LUPP designation for this area is Priority Transitional Residential,which allows
for development at urban densities without annexation subject to adequate utilities being provided; and,
WHEREAS,after review of the goals and objectives of the LUPP,it is clear that in order to accomplish
the desired population growth that is envisioned, additional land must be annexed into the City limits; and,
WHEREAS,the Planning and Zoning Commission has recommended that the City Council approve the
proposed LUPP amendments and also adopt text amendments changing the definition of New Lands to include
those areas of the Ames Urban Fringe that are designated Urban Services Area;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the LUPP
amendment to change the Priority Transitional Residential designation within the subject area to Urban
Residential and the Priority Transitional Residential designation of the Canterbrooke tract to Rural Transitional
Residential is hereby approved.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the text amendment changing the definition ofNew Lands to include
those areas of the Ames Urban Fringe that are designated Urban Services Area is hereby adopted.
