RESOLUTION APPROVING UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD AGREEMENT
FOR 2008/09 RAILROAD CROSSING SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS
(CROSSING SIGNALS AT 9TH STREET)
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, this program is to provide for safety and surface improvements at railroad
crossings along the north-south railroad corridor; and,
WHEREAS, basic safety features desired at each crossing include two-quadrant vehicle
gates, mounted flashing lights, and constant warning time detection; and,
WHEREAS, the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) has confirmed that these features are in
place at the 13th Street, 20t' Street, and 24t' Street crossings, and the first two years of this program
provide for installation of these improvements at 91h Street; and,
WHEREAS, the UPRR recently drafted an agreement for the installation of two-quadrant
gates at the 9th Street railroad crossing,and the estimated cost for all labor and materials is$200,494.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the Union Pacific Railroad Agreement for installation of lights,gates,and constant warning time
devices at the 9t' Street railroad crossing is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 1 Oth day of November, 2009.
