HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Street closures for ISU Homecoming RESOLUTION NO. 09-462 RESOLUTION APPROVING STREET CLOSURES FOR ISU HOMECOMING FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,on Friday,October 16,2009,the Homecoming Central Committee at Iowa State is again planning an event in connection with Homecoming Weekend at Iowa State University;and, WHEREAS, the event is scheduled to begin at approximately 8 p.m. and continue until 10 p.m.; and, WHEREAS, music and tours of the lawn displays built to celebrate Homecoming will be provided for attendees, and the event is an opportunity for the general public to view the lawn displays and watch performances associated with the displays; and, WHEREAS, to facilitate the event, organizers are asking the City Council to approve the following street closures: Sunset Drive from Ash to just west of the intersection with Beach Avenue; Ash Avenue from Gable Lane to Knapp Street; Gray Avenue from its intersection with Gable to Greeley Street; and, Pearson Avenue between Greeley and Sunset; and, WHEREAS, streets will be closed at approximately 6:30 p.m. and reopened by 11:00 p.m.; and, WHEREAS,Public Works will provide the barricades necessary for the street closures along with"No Parking" signs and orange safety vests for volunteers staffing the barricades; and, WHEREAS, organizers have been asked to work with residents in accessing the area, particularly during the early evening set up hours. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the aforementioned street closures for the ISU Homecoming activities on October 16,2009,are hereby approved.
