RESOLUTION APPROVING INSTALLATION OF COLORED CONCRETE
AND DECORATIVE STREET LIGHTING ON KELLOGG AVENUE
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, at the August 25, 2009, meeting, the City Council approved the contract and
bond for the Kellogg Avenue Street Improvement Project; and,
WHEREAS, at that time, a representative from the Main Street Cultural District (MSCD)
requested that the Council amend the improvement project to extend the decorative street lighting
south of the railroad tracks to Lincoln Way on Kellogg Avenue, and that the decorative sidewalk
design be extended from Main Street to Lincoln Way; and,
WHEREAS, prior to taking any action regarding this request, the Council directed staff to
determine the estimated cost increase related to these additions, and these costs are estimated as
follows: $2,000 for extending the decorative sidewalk from Main to Lincoln Way; and, $7,600 for
installing decorative street lights from the railroad tracks south to Lincoln Way; and,
WHEREAS,the extra cost for the decorative sidewalk can be absorbed in the project budget,
and the costs for street lights could come out of the available balance in the Electric Fund.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the installation of colored concrete and decorative street lights on Kellogg Avenue as described
above is hereby approved,and the costs for these improvements are to be funded through the Kellogg
Avenue Street Improvement Project budget and the Electric Fund, respectively.
