HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Contract for Pavement Management Program RESOLUTION NO. 09-441 RESOLUTION APPROVING CONTRACT FOR PAVEMENT MANAGEMENT PROGRAM FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, the Center for Transportation Research and Education (CTRE) is a unit of the Institute for Transportation(InTrans) at Iowa State University; and, WHEREAS, as part of the Iowa Pavement Management Program, CTRE assists local agencies with the development of pavement management systems by offering automated data collection on the condition of roads, including information on cracks and the qualify of the ride; and, WHEREAS,as part of this service,the Iowa Pavement Management Program also includes high resolution video logging of the roadway along driven routes, and the video is linked to the pavement condition data and is used to visually assess pavement condition and assets in the City right-of-way without leaving the office; and, WHEREAS,the GIS-based pavement management system facilitates rapid pavement condition analysis over the entire local street network, and as a result,Public Works staff will be able to run data- driven cost benefit scenarios based on construction practices and underlying pavement conditions; and, WHEREAS,this will ensure the City's more than$7,000,000 per year in street construction funds continue to be allocated in the most cost-effective and efficient manner; and, WHEREAS, the total contract amount is $22,000, which includes data collection and video logging; and, WHEREAS, the City of Ames received $221,208 from the I-JOBS Infrastructure Investment Initiative by Governor Culver; and, WHEREAS,Road Use Tax funds offset by I-JOBS funds will now be available for this project. NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,that the contract for Pavement Management Services with Center for Transportation Research and Education in the amount of$22,000,using Road Use Tax funds, is hereby approved.
