HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - 28E Agreement with IDNR for sport fishing at Ada Hayden Heritage Park RESOLUTION NO. 09-365 RESOLUTION APPROVING 28E AGREEMENT WITH IOWA DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES FOR SPORT FISHING RECREATION PROJECT AT ADA HAYDEN HERITAGE PARK FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, earlier this summer, the Council repealed several ordinances related to the management and regulation of fishing at Ada Hayden Heritage Park; and, WHEREAS, at that time, it was anticipated that the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR)would assume responsibility for management of the fish population and enforcement of State fishing regulations; and, WHEREAS, at its meeting on June 9, 2009, the Council authorized staff to submit an application for grant funding to the IDNR, and the IDNR notified the Parks and Recreation Department that the grant has been approved,providing 75% of the total construction costs up to $90,000 for the construction of an Ada-compliant fishing pier; and, WHEREAS,the 28E Agreement provides for City administration of the construction project and for IDNR management of sport fishing at Ada Hayden Heritage Park; and, WHEREAS, the Agreement preserves the City's authority to utilize the lake as an indirect water supply source and to restrict angler access to roadways, causeways, and bridges as necessary to protect public safety. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the 28E Agreement with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources for the Sport Fishing Restoration Project is hereby approved.
