RESOLUTION APPROVING WAIVER OF ENFORCEMENT
OF PARKING REGULATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH
BLOCK PARTY TRAILER
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, the "Strengthening Neighborhoods Action Team"was able to raise the funds
necessary to allow for the purchase, customizing, and outfitting of the Street'N'Greet block parry
trailer; and,
WHEREAS, the trailer's public debut was on the Fourth of July, and the first actual block
parry is scheduled for July 25; and,
WHEREAS,the trailer will be delivered by the Police Department to a spot on a public street
or private property, and there will be one reservation of the trailer per weekend; and,
WHEREAS, in order to facilitate the placement of the trailer on public street right-of-way,
staff is asking that the Council consider enacting a special exception to parking regulations under
Section 18.32 of the Municipal Code, specifically to approve the waiver of parking enforcement
where the trailer is parked; and,
WHEREAS,this waiver will be in accordance with: 1)upon approval by the traffic engineer
and adjoining property owner, the city manager may include a Council waiver of parking
enforcement as part of a Temporary Obstruction Permit for parking of the block parry trailer on
public street right-of-way for a period not to exceed 72 hours; and,2)insurance coverage normally
required for a Temporary Obstruction Permit shall also be waived, since the trailer is owned and
insured by the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the waiver of parking enforcement in connection with the block parry trailer for community
cultural events is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 14t" day of July, 2009.
