HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Grant application for Shared-Use Path RESOLUTION NO. 09-284 RESOLUTION APPROVING SUBMITTAL OF STATE RECREATIONAL TRAIL GRANT APPLICATION FOR SHARED-USE PATH (SKUNK RIVER TRAIL) FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, the 2008/09 Shared-Use Path System Improvement Project is to extend the Skunk River Trail from East Lincoln Way to Southeast 16`' Street along the west side of the Skunk River; and, WHEREAS, this project is part of a city-wide green belt trail that will eventually connect Ada Hayden Park to the Hunziker Youth Sports Complex, and the total estimated cost to construct this trail, including a bridge over Squaw Creek, is $1,045,000; and, WHEREAS,the Iowa Department of Transportation(IDOT)administers grants through the Recreational Trail program that provide $2 million annually to fund only the construction portion of public trail projects, and the application deadline is July 1 of each funding cycle; and, WHEREAS,there is a minimum requirement of 25%in local matching funds,which would be approximately$216,875 for this project,leaving$650,625 to be requested from the IDOT; and, WHEREAS, there are other requirements for this grant, with those being: 1) grant monies must be used for a trail that is part of a local or area-wide trail plan; and, 2) trails resulting from successful applications must be maintained as a public facility for a minimum of 20 years. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the submittal of a State Recreational Trail Program application for the Skunk River Trail Extension(East Lincoln Way to Southeast 16`h Street) is hereby approved.
