RESOLUTION APPROVING PURCHASE OF FIVE
40-FOOT CYRIDE BUSES
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, in March 2009,CyRide ordered nine 40-foot buses funded from the American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act(ARRA) and Iowa Clean Air Attainment Program (ICAAP) and,
WHEREAS, the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) notified transit systems just
recently that it received an additional$7,100,000 in federal discretionary funding,and,subsequently,
completed an allocation process resulting in CyRide receiving funding for the purchase of five
additional 40-foot diesel buses; and,
WHEREAS,these federal dollars provide 80%of the funding needed for this bus purchase,
requiring a 20% local match; and,
WHEREAS, CyRide's current capital closing balance contained in its budget is $680,999,
which provides adequate local funding to purchase these vehicles; and,
WHEREAS,CyRide is part of the Akron,Ohio,national bus purchase and has 16 remaining
bus options able to be awarded to Gillig Corporation; and,
WHEREAS,the Ames Transit Agency Board of Trustees approved award of the five vehicles
to Gillig Corporation at its May 1, 2009, meeting.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,
that the purchase of five 40-foot transit buses from Gillig Corporation of Oakland, California, for
up to $1,920,000 is hereby approved.
