HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - 2009 Neighborhood Sculpture acquisitions RESOLUTION NO. 09-140 RESOLUTION APPROVING 2009 NEIGHBORHOOD SCULPTURE ACQUISITIONS FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, the Public Art Commission is recommending the purchase of three sculptures for the 2009 Neighborhood Sculpture Program; and, WHEREAS, the South Campus Area Neighborhood is requesting that the City purchase "Wild Flowers"by Robert Lamberson for$1,200,which will be placed in the triangle at Cessna and Agg; and, WHEREAS, the Old Town Neighborhood Association has submitted an application requesting "Jester" by Tom Newport for $1,200, to be placed in Old Town Park at 826 Douglas Avenue; and, WHEREAS, the Somerset Neighborhood has submitted an application that requests the sculpture"Slight of Hand"by Robert J.A. Thorpe for$2,000,which will be located west of Stange Road between Northridge Parkway and Northridge Lane, locally known as Horseshoe Park; and, WHEREAS, partial funding for the three sculptures is included in the 2008/09 budget appropriation $4,000 for Neighborhood Art with the remaining funds coming from the Public Art Commission's $1,000 operating expense account. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the acquisitions for the 2009 Neighborhood Sculpture Program for the above-mentioned art pieces are hereby approved.
