RESOLUTION APPROVING ENGINEERING SERVICES AGREEMENT
FOR 2008/09 CYRIDE ROUTE PAVEMENT IMPROVEMENTS PROGRAM
(TORONTO STREET AND HUTCHISON STREET)
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, this is the 2008/09 annual program for pavement improvements to streets that are
bus routes, and these streets were designed and built for light, residential traffic; and,
WHEREAS, with these streets designated as bus routes, accelerated deterioration of the street
surface has occurred, and pavement improvements will restore street sections to carry projected traffic
volumes; and,
WHEREAS,the 2008/09 project locations are Toronto Street(Florida Avenue to North Dakota
Avenue) and Hutchison Street(Florida Avenue to North Dakota Avenue); and,
WHEREAS, staff requested engineering proposals for 13 shared use path, drainage, and street
improvement projects, and through this process, the City received 120 proposals from 13 engineering
firms; and,
WHEREAS, Snyder&Associates, Inc., is being recommended to complete the design for this
project due to its past experience on Ames street projects and its understanding of pavement
reconstruction/rehabilitation methods; and,
WHEREAS, services to be performed by the consultant include base survey, evaluation of
construction techniques, preparation of plans and specifications to meet local letting standards,
conducting a public informational meeting,notification/coordination with right-of-way users and adj acent
land owners, and attendance at the pre-construction meeting.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that
the Engineering Services Agreement with Snyder&Associates,Inc.,of Ankeny,Iowa,in an amount not
to exceed$63,000 for the 2008/09 CyRide Route Pavement Improvements Project is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 24th day of February, 2009.
