RESOLUTION APPROVING ENGINEERING SERVICES AGREEMENT
FOR 2008/09 CONCRETE PAVEMENT IMPROVEMENTS PROGRAM
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, this annual program is to remove and replace concrete street sections that have
deteriorated, and removal and replacement of concrete street sections provide enhanced rideability to
residents and visitors; and,
WHEREAS, the 2008/09 project locations include Northwestern Avenue (6t" Street to Allan
Drive), Orchard Drive, South High Avenue (south of Southeast 16th Street), and Allan Drive
(Northwestern Avenue to Grand Avenue); and,
WHEREAS, staff requested engineering proposals for 13 shared use path, drainage, and street
improvement projects, and through this process, the City received 120 proposals from 13 engineering
firms; and,
WHEREAS,HWS,Inc.,is being recommended to complete the design for this project due to its
high quality of prior work experience on Ames street projects and strong project understanding and
approach, as well its consistently high rankings on all proposals received from its organization; and,
WHEREAS, services to be performed by the consultant include base survey, evaluation of
construction techniques, preparation of plans and specifications to meet local letting standards,
conducting a public informational meeting,notification/coordination with right-of-way users and adjacent
land owners, and attendance at the pre-construction meeting.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that
the Engineering Services Agreement with HWS, Inc., of Ames, Iowa, in an amount not to exceed
$131,900 for the 2008/09 Concrete Pavement Improvements Project is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 24th day of February, 2009.
