RESOLUTION APPROVING ENGINEERING SERVICES AGREEMENT
FOR 2008/09 AND 2009/10 COLLECTOR STREET
PAVEMENT IMPROVEMENTS PROGRAM
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, this is the annual program for reconstruction or rehabilitation of collector streets,
and locations are chosen in accordance with the most current street conditions inventory; and,
WHEREAS, the locations chosen for the two projects have a variety of pavement sections and
will require some reconstruction and some rehabilitation; and,
WHEREAS, the 2008/09 project locations include: 20th Street(Grand Avenue to Duff Avenue
and the Union Pacific Railroad to Ames High Drive)and Marshall Avenue(Lincoln Way to Story Street),
and the 2009/10 proj ect locations include: 16th Street(Burnett Avenue to Duff Avenue),Garfield Avenue
(Phoenix Street to Ross Road), and Ross Road (Garfield Avenue to Jarrett Circle); and,
WHEREAS, staff requested engineering proposals for 13 shared use path, drainage, and street
improvement projects, and through this process, the City received 120 proposals from 13 engineering
firms; and,
WHEREAS, Stanley Consultants is being recommended to complete the design for this project
due to project understanding and approach that is reflected in its familiarity with the project area,as well
as the ability to coordinate with the Ames Community School District due to project proximity to
numerous schools; and,
WHEREAS, services to be performed by the consultant include base survey, evaluation of
construction techniques, preparation of plans and specifications to meet local letting standards,
conducting a public informational meeting,notification/coordination with right-of-way users and adj acent
land owners, and attendance at the pre-construction meeting.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that
the Engineering Services Agreement with Stanley Consultants of Des Moines, Iowa, in an amount not
to exceed $123,100 for the 2008/09 and 2009/10 Collector Street Pavement Improvements Project is
hereby approved.
