HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - City-Wide Accident Study RESOLUTION NO. 09-059 RESOLUTION APPROVING CITY-WIDE ACCIDENT STUDY FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, Ames experienced 930 crashes in 2002 increasing annually to around 1,408 crashes in 2007,and the Traffic Engineering Studies program identifies research needed to improve safety and operations of our transportation system; and, WHEREAS, the 2007/08 year project is to perform a City-wide accident study; and, WHEREAS, staff has worked with the Center for Transportation Research and Education (CTRE)to develop an approach to address ongoing traffic safety concerns throughout the network, and CTRE was chosen for this task due to its cutting edge knowledge of traffic engineering research; and, WHEREAS,work to be performed in this study will be for the full amount shown in the CIP of$50,000,and according to purchasing procedures,the study would normally require a competitive proposal process open to multiple firms; and, WHEREAS, however, due to the scope of the study and the unique capabilities of CTRE, staff is requesting that the Council waive the competitive proposal requirement and award the contract to CTRE based upon the unique skills and capabilities of its staff to perform the requirements of this study. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the waiver of the competitive bidding process is hereby approved,and an engineering services agreement for the City-Wide Accident Study is awarded to the Center for Transportation Research and Education(CTRE) of Ames, Iowa, in the amount of$50,000.
