HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Matching Funds for Rehabilitation of Ames Municipal Airport Runway 13/31 RESOLUTION NO. 09-057 RESOLUTION APPROVING MATCHING FUNDS FOR REHABILITATION OF AMES MUNICIPAL AIRPORT RUNWAY 13/31 FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,the 2008/09 Capital Improvements Plan includes a project for the Rehabilitation of Runway 13/31, which was initially built in 1953 and last reconstructed in 1977; and, WHEREAS,although the City has continued to perform preventative maintenance throughout the years, the runway has deteriorated to the point that full reconstruction is required; and, WHEREAS,the City received official notice from the Federal Aviation Administration(FAA) to initiate this project, with the anticipated deadline for bids set for April 1, 2009; and, WHEREAS,upon receipt of bids,the City would typically apply for an FAA grant based on the actual project costs as shown in the successful bid,however,in response to recent direction from the FAA,this process and respective deadline for submission of the grant has been accelerated to take advantage of available funding; and, WHEREAS, in order for airport projects to utilize existing funding, applications must be received prior to expiration of their current spending authority, therefore, the FAA is requiring an executed grant agreement that is received no later than February 20, 2009; and, WHEREAS,HWS,the consulting engineers,have completed survey and preliminary design following FAA guidance to create an updated project cost,and the revised total estimated cost for the project is $3,096,726; and, WHEREAS, the FAA portion of this project is $2,941,890 (95%) and the City's share is $154,836 (5%). NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the matching funds for the Ames Municipal Airport Runway 13/31 Rehabilitation are hereby approved.
