RESOLUTION APPROVING FINAL PAYMENT FOR PHASE I COSTS OF
RIDGEPORT WIND PROJECT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,this project is for the City of Ames to participate in an overall wind energy supply
development called Ridgeport,and in doing so,the City is seeking to purchase renewable energy from
a wind facility to be developed by a private company; and,
WHEREAS,the Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities(IAMU)has served as the facilitator
of this project and has contracted with private firms to locate possible sites for such a facility, and to
identify a possible developer for the project; and,
WHEREAS, several potential utilities in Iowa, including Ames, would act as an overall
consortium to purchase the renewable energy, should it be developed; and,
WHEREAS, the current project is divided into Phases I and 11, and Phase I was to consist of
a site selection for a possible wind farm development; and,
WHEREAS, to date, the City has paid an amount of$28,457 for Phase I, and has received a
final invoice of$27,681, which will complete the Phase I assessment; and,
WHEREAS, the Council authorized this phase of the project on March 6, 2007, at a cost not
to exceed$50,600; and,
WHEREAS, staff is requesting that the Council authorize the additional funding to complete
the City's Phase I commitment,and that this funding come from the Electric Utility Fund balance;and,
WHEREAS, Iowa State University will be billed for its portion of the cost, which is
approximately$14,140.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that
the allocation of additional funding in the amount of$5,538 is hereby approved, and final payment is
authorized for Phase I of the Ridgeport Wind Energy Project.
