RESOLUTION APPROVING LANE CLOSURES AND
PARTIAL STREET CLOSURES FOR RAGBRAI
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, Council action is necessary to facilitate the visit of RAGBRAI riders to our
community on July 22-23, 2008; and,
WHEREAS, in analyzing the route through the community and in order to promote safety for
riders and the motoring public, a number of final requests are being presented to the City Council for
approval as follows:
a) closure of the intersection of Hyland Avenue and Ontario Street from 8:00 a.m.to 7:00
p.m. on July 22 (traffic on Ontario may continue east and west as directed by officers
in the intersection. Northbound traffic on Hyland will be diverted to Ross Road);
b) restriction of the right eastbound lane of Ontario Street to bicycle traffic only, from
Hyland Avenue to Stange Road(signs and cones will be used to separate motorists from
bicyclists);
c) closure of both eastbound and westbound left turn lanes on Lincoln Way at Welch
Avenue;
d) closure of northbound and southbound left turn lanes on University Boulevard at South
16' Street;
e) closure of northbound and southbound left turn lanes on South Duff Avenue at South
16' Street; and,
WHEREAS, door hanger tags will be distributed along the in-bound and out-bound routes,
notifying the residents of the event and asking for their patience; and,
WHEREAS, City staff has been involved in route and event planning for the past several
months, and safety of the visitors and Ames residents is of the utmost importance.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that
the aforementioned lane and partial street closures for RAGBRAI on July 22-23, 2008, is hereby
approved.
ADOPTED THIS 15t1i day of July, 2008.
