Home My WebLink About~Master - Foster Grandparents Program participation in ASSET process RESOLUTION NO. 08-316 RESOLUTION APPROVING FOSTER GRANDPARENTS PROGRAM PARTICIPATION IN 2009/10 ASSET PROCESS FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,for a number of years,the Foster Grandparent Program has been funded through the ASSET process as a program offered by a sponsoring organization actually holding a 501(c)(3) designation; and, WHEREAS, the program has been a valuable tool for assisting children with additional support needs in the school system, however, this program sponsored by Good Connections, has ceased operations; and, WHEREAS,Foster Grandparents is in the process of obtaining its own 501(c)(3)status;and, WHEREAS,the ASSET Policies and Procedures have required that an agency participating in the funding process must be"a non-profit corporation or chartered as a local unit of a non-profit corporation that has an IRS Section 501(c)(3) status," and that the agency "must have been incorporated and actively conducting business for at least one year at the time of the application";and, WHEREAS, these requirements taken together would keep Foster Grandparents from participating in the 2009/10 funding process, unless the funders are willing to approve a waiver of these requirements in this case; and, WHEREAS, at an ASSET Joint Funder meeting, representatives unanimously approved taking this action; and, WHEREAS, since the Council did not have a quorum present for the Joint Funder meeting, formal approval is requested at this time. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that waiver of the ASSET Policies and Procedures to allow for participation of the Foster Grandparent Program in the 2009/10 process is hereby approved.
