HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Contract extension for Dial-A-Ride Services RESOLUTION NO. 08-259 RESOLUTION APPROVING CONTRACT EXTENSION FOR DIAL-A-RIDE SERVICES FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, CyRide entered into a three-year contract beginning in 2005 with Heartland Senior Services(HSS)for provision of Dial-A-Ride services for disabled residents of Ames,and this service is required by the federal government as part of the Americans with Disabilities Act to provide complimentary, door-to-door bus service for persons with disabilities; and, WHEREAS,until 2005,CyRide had provided this service in-house,however,it was deemed to be mutually beneficial to both organizations to contract this service; and, WHEREAS, the three-year contract is set to expire on June 30, 2008, but Federal Transit Administration regulations allow transit systems to enter into a five-year contract for services;and, WHEREAS, in working with legal counsel, it was determined to be most beneficial for CyRide to extend the existing contract an additional two years as opposed to rebidding the contract, and the main reason for this decision was based upon the limited availability of contractors to provide this service; and, WHEREAS,there are several modifications to the contract that include duration(extension to June 30, 2010), compensation, and bus use agreement; and, WHEREAS,this contract was approved by the Heartland Senior Services Board of Directors on April 28 and the Ames Transit Agency Board of Trustees on June 2. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the contract extension with Heartland Senior Services through June 30,2010,to provide Dial-A- Ride services is hereby approved.
