HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Engineering services agreement for Non-Ferrous Recovery System RESOLUTION NO. 08-160 RESOLUTION APPROVING ENGINEERING SERVICES AGREEMENT FOR NON-FERROUS RECOVERY SYSTEM FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, Resource Recovery annually processes in excess of 50,000 tons of municipal solid waste,and after processing,the break-out of material is as follows: 64%Refuse-Derived Fuel burned as fuel in the City's Power Plant,5%ferrous metals used for additional processing and reuse, and of the remaining amount,approximately 18,000 tons of rejected material is currently landfilled; and, WHEREAS, of that 18,000 tons, staff has identified 1.17% is non-ferrous metals, which annually equates to 219 tons with a market value of$219,000; and, WHEREAS, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) has awarded the City of Ames a low-interest loan through its Solid Waste Alternatives Program for a non-ferrous recovery system; and, WHEREAS, staff has solicited proposals for the design engineering and construction management services to install a non-ferrous recovery system in the Resource Recovery Plant, and of the three responses received, it was determined that RRT Design & Construction has the most experience and is the best qualified to provide these services; and, WHEREAS, staff has negotiated a contract with RRT Design&Construction in an amount not to exceed$92,280 for these services. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa, that the contract for design engineering and construction management services with RRT Design& Construction for a Non-Ferrous Recovery System at the Resource Recovery Plant in an amount not to exceed $92,280 is hereby approved.
