RESOLUTION APPROVING CONTRACT FOR
PHASE II ENGINEERING SERVICES FOR
WATER PLANT RAW WELL WATER TRANSMISSION PIPELINE PROJECT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,in the 2007-2012 Capital Improvements Plan,a raw well water loop line was scheduled
to be started in Fiscal Year 2007/08; and,
WHEREAS, currently, a single 24-inch water line delivers water from 10 wells in the Southeast
Well Field and the Hunziker Youth Sports Complex Well Field, and with the expansion of wells in those
areas over the last two decades, that line is no longer able to adequately carry the full capacity of these
wells; and,
WHEREAS,the City's water supply is also vulnerable to disruption with only one line to the water
treatment plant from these wells, and developing redundancy in delivering this water to the plant is very
important since these 10 wells represent 65% of the City's current water supply capacity; and,
WHEREAS,staff competitively solicited proposals for engineering services related to the Raw Well
Water Transmission Pipeline Project from six area consulting firms; and,
WHEREAS,four firms submitted proposals,and the two top made presentations of their proposals
to staff, with FOX Engineering of Ames being selected as the preferred design firm; and,
WHEREAS,staff members proposed to break the engineering services agreement into two phases,
and Phase I is currently still in progress, and Phase II will include development of final plans and
specifications,bidding assistance, construction phase services, and project close-out; and,
WHEREAS, a scope of work for Phase 11 has been developed by FOX Engineering based on the
results from Phase I of this project; and,
WHEREAS, the Phase 11 contract is in an amount not to exceed $222,500.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the
contract for Phase II engineering services for the Raw Well Water Transmission Pipeline Project with FOX
Engineering of Ames, Iowa, in an amount not to exceed$222,500 is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 22nd day of April, 2008.
