HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Acquisition of easements for 161-kV transmission line RESOLUTION NO. 08-084 RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE EXERCISE OF OPTIONS TO ACQUIRE EASEMENTS ON THE PROPOSED ROUTE OF THE 161-kV TRANSMISSION LINE FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS, the City of Ames,Iowa,has determined that in order to improve electric service reliability, there is the need for an additional transmission line to connect to the regional electric transmission grid; and, WHEREAS, following years of system impact studies, a route study, and substation and transmission line design work,the City determined that the best route for an additional transmission line extends from Ames to Ankeny; and, WHEREAS,on February 27,2008,the City filed its most recent brief with the Iowa Utilities Board, and a ruling on the City's franchise application is pending before the Iowa Utilities Board; and, WHEREAS, in anticipation of the approval of the franchise, the City has obtained options to acquire easements for the location of transmission lines along the proposed route; and, WHEREAS,two of the options to acquire an easement will expire on March 15 and April 5, 2008, in advance of the anticipated franchise decision of the Iowa Utilities Board; and, WHEREAS,the cost of acquiring these easements is $8,168 and$7,500,respectively,for a total cost of$15,668. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the exercise of options to acquire easements on the proposed route of the 161-kV transmission line due to expire March 15 and April 5,2008,in the amount of$15,668.00 is hereby authorized.
