HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Street closure for Campustown Rail Jam RESOLUTION NO. 08-063 RESOLUTION APPROVING CLOSURE OF CHAMBERLAIN STREET BETWEEN WELCH AND STANTON AVENUES FOR CAMPUSTOWN RAIL JAM EVENT FOR THE CITY OF AMES, IOWA WHEREAS, staff recently met with representatives of the Iowa State University Ski and Snowboard Club for planning of the proposed Campustown Rail Jam on the eastern portion of Chamberlain Street,and this year,organizers are requesting that they be given a"snow date"of March 8 in case there is not enough snow on the ground on March 1; and, WHEREAS, for this event, the organizers are requesting the closure of Chamberlain Street between Welch Avenue and Stanton Avenue and City Parking Lot Y from 2:00 p.m.on March 1,2008, until 8:00 a.m. on March 2 (or with snow dates of March 8 and 9); and, WHEREAS, Chamberlain Street parking spaces between Welch and Stanton and the City's Parking Lot Y would be closed at Noon on Saturday,March 1,and the street will be closed at 2:00 p.m. to facilitate the hauling in and/or making of snow on Chamberlain; and, WHEREAS,the Public Works Department will provide barricades appropriate for the closure of Chamberlain and the City parking lot; and, WHEREAS,event organizers will be responsible for providing adequate interior fencing and hay bales along the course in order to protect participants; and, WHEREAS,Club members will also be responsible for providing sand bags or similar devices to prevent debris from entering the storm sewer intakes; and, WHEREAS,Campustown businesses and the neighborhood have indicated their support for this event, and the University is providing insurance coverage for the Club. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,that the closure of Chamberlain Street between Welch Avenue and Stanton Avenue and Chamberlain Lot Y from 2:00 p.m. on March 1,2008,until 8:00 a.m. on March 2,2008,(or on the aforementioned snow dates) for the Campustown Rail Jam is hereby approved.
