HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - College Heights Intensive and Architectural Survey RESOLUTION NO. 08-050 RESOLUTION APPROVING GRANT AGREEMENT FOR COLLEGE HEIGHTS INTENSIVE AND ARCHITECTURAL SURVEY FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA WHEREAS, on August 28, 2007,the Council directed staff to submit a Certified Local Grant(C.G.) application to the State Historical Society of Iowa to fund an Intensive and Architectural Survey of the College Heights neighborhood; and, WHEREAS,on December 5,2007,the City of Ames received notice from the State Historical Society of Iowa that the grant application was approved for funding in the requested amount of$17,145; and, WHEREAS,an intensive survey,as the name implies,is designed to identify and describe the historic resources precisely and complete,and it involves a thorough inspection of all historic resources identified within the survey boundaries, and detailed background research into the history of the properties, events,and people associated with them, and an evaluation of their significance; and, WHEREAS, a completed intensive survey will provide a solid basis for work on a National Register nomination for the particular resource; and, WHEREAS,the principle investigator for the intensive survey will be the project consultant,who must be an historian or architectural history consultant approved by the State Historical Society of Iowa; and, WHEREAS, a Request for Proposal (RFP) and consultant subcontract will be prepared by staff and approved by the State Historic Preservation Office; and, WHEREAS,the RFP must be sent to no fewer than three consultants,and each proposal submitted to the City will then be reviewed and a qualified consultant will be hired to conduct the survey; and, WHEREAS, project volunteers will perform duties delegated by the consultant, including, but not limited to, conducting research photographing properties, working with digital photographic files and prints, writing up architectural descriptions and historical information on surveyed properties,completing data entry for site inventory forms,and compiling electronic information into an historic resources database form for future use and distribution. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the State Historical Society of Iowa Grant-in-Aid Agreement for the College Heights Intensive and Architectural Survey, Phase I, is hereby approved.
