RESOLUTION APPROVING WATERSHED IMPROVEMENT
REVIEW BOARD GRANT AGREEMENT
FOR THE CITY OF AMES,IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Ames Public Works Department, in partnership with Iowa State
University Landscape Architecture scientists, has been awarded a grant from the Watershed
Improvement Review Board(WIRB) for improvements to College Creek; and,
WHEREAS, the grant is in the amount of$304,335 over a three-year term, and the main area
of focus along College Creek will be from the west corporate limits to South Dakota Avenue; and,
WHEREAS,the water quality enhancement goal of this project is to reduce sediment delivery
specifically from unstable streambanks and degrading stream channels on College Creek, and this
project will also redirect urban storm water runoff into engineered systems, intercepting it from storm
drains entering College Creek; and,
WHEREAS, public outreach is built into each phase of this program, including holding
neighborhood learning circles to educate residents and receive feedback to consider in design; and,
WHEREAS, the agreement requires that a project-length Plan of Work be provided to WIRB
by January 15, 2008, and staff is currently working with WIRB staff to complete this plan,which will
outline each administrative and construction practice eligible for funding; and,
WHEREAS, the WIRB meets bi-annually to approve funding requests, and these requests
include partial allocation for expenses anticipated during the next six-month period.
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,that
the Watershed Improvement Review Board Grant Agreement is hereby approved.
