HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - 2005/06 Railroad crossing improvements for Scholl Road RESOLUTION NO. 07-522 RESOLUTION APPROVING 2005/06 RAILROAD CROSSING IMPROVEMENTS FOR SCHOLL ROAD FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, the Railroad Crossing Improvements Program identified in the Capital Improvements Plan (CIP) provides for safety improvements at railroad crossings, and the 2005/06 project location identified improvements at the Scholl Road Union Pacific Railroad(UPRR)crossing; and, WHEREAS,an agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation(IDOT),UPRR,and the City of Ames for the Scholl Road grade crossing surface repair was approved on September 13, 2005, establishing 60%of the expenses to be paid by the IDOT,20%to be paid by the UPRR, and 20%to be paid by the City of Ames; and, WHEREAS, at that time, the total project cost for the repair of the crossing surface was estimated by the UPRR to be $102,499, making the City's share approximately$20,499; and, WHEREAS, recently, staff received the invoice from the UPRR for the work it conducted in 2006 for repairs at the Scholl Road railroad crossing,and the total cost of the project as completed was $168,776.36, which brings the City's 20% share of the project to $33,755.36; and, WHEREAS,this is an increase of approximately$15,755.36 over the 2005 estimate due to the increase in cost for construction materials and mobilization of crews; and, WHEREAS,the remaining City obligation of$15,755.36 maybe financed from the unobligated balance of the Road Use Tax Fund. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that the payment of$33,755.36 to the Union Pacific Railroad for the Scholl Road grade crossing surface repair is hereby approved.
