HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Amendment to EEO and Affirmative Action Policy Statement RESOLUTION NO. 07-519 RESOLUTION APPROVING AMENDMENT TO EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY AND AFFIRMATIVE ACTION POLICY STATEMENT FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, effective July 1, 2007, the Iowa Civil Rights Act(Iowa Code, Chapter 216)was expanded to add sexual orientation and gender identify to the list of protected characteristics; and, WHEREAS,it is now illegal in Iowa to discriminate against a person because of his/her actual or perceived sexual orientation or gender identity; and, WHEREAS, the City's Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action Policy Statement (Section 3.2 of the Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual) already includes sexual orientation as a protected characteristic,and this revision would add gender identity to bring the City's policy into compliance with state law. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa, that the amendment to the Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action Policy Statement to include non-discrimination in employment based on gender identity is hereby approved.
