HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Street closure for Hillary Clinton campaign event RESOLUTION NO. 07-452 RESOLUTION APPROVING STREET CLOSURE FOR"HILLARY CLINTON FOR PRESIDENT" CAMPAIGN EVENT FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS,the"Hillary Clinton for President"campaign organizers have asked to close Main Street on October 8, 2007, to allow Senator Clinton to deliver a speech on economic issues; and, WHEREAS, event organizers will be constructing a stage on of Main Street with set-up beginning around Noon; and, WHEREAS, the Police Department has not met with the Secret Service, so the exact street closures needed are not yet known, and much will be based on what the Secret Service requires; and, WHEREAS, the request is for the closure of Main Street between Clark and Douglas Avenues from Noon to 10:00 p.m., however, the entire area will not be closed throughout that time; and, WHEREAS,there will be some impact to the Parking Fund due to the closure of the Main Street parking spaces,as well as possible costs incurred for police assistance with security and traffic direction; and, WHEREAS, it is unknown whether electrical outlets will be needed, however, it is staff s recommendation that event organizers be required to pay for electricity. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,that the request to close Main Street from Clark Avenue to Douglas Avenue on October 8,2007,from Noon until 10:00 p.m. for the "Hillary Clinton for President" Campaign event is hereby approved, provided that all costs (not incurred as a result of Secret Service requirements) associated with lost parking revenue,security and traffic direction provided by the Ames Police Department,and any electricity used from City outlets be charged to Campaign organizers.
