HomeMy WebLinkAbout~Master - Contract for WPC sanitary sewer and sump pump installation RESOLUTION NO. 07-443 RESOLUTION AWARDING CONTRACT FOR WATER POLLUTION CONTROL SANITARY SEWER AND SUMP PUMP INSTALLATION PROJECT FOR THE CITY OF AMES WHEREAS, in Spring 2007, a sewer line serving three buildings at the Water Pollution Control (WPC) facility failed, backing up sewage into the basement of the trickling filer pump station, and this failure has created an ongoing series of operational and repair challenges at the Plant; and, WHEREAS, in July 2007, quotes for placing a sanitary sewer bypass line were sought, and it was discovered by one of the bidding contractors that groundwater at the proposed pipeline depth of 18 feet would require substantial dewatering during project construction; and, WHEREAS,because of the high groundwater,both contractors providing quotes priced the project at approximately$80,000; and, WHEREAS,given these challenges,City staff determined that a better option would be to identify an entirely new pipeline route,and this new project will route wastewater flows from two buildings through a new manhole and into the control box at the headworks of the Treatment Plant; and, WHEREAS,wastewater from the remaining building will then be drained to a sump in the basement and pumped into the wet well of the pump station; and, WHEREAS, this project was next distributed for formal quotations as required by City and state purchasing regulations, and on September 19, 2007, one quote was received for the project from Ames Trenching&Excavating, Inc., of Ames, Iowa, in the amount of$68,500; and, WHEREAS, funding for this unbudgeted project is available from two other projects at the WPC facility that were recently completed under budget,and this includes$51,270 from the Grit Removal Units Upgrade and$22,438 from the Trickling Filter Wall Repair. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames,Iowa,that the contract with Ames Trenching&Excavating,Inc.,of Ames,Iowa,in the amount of$68,500 for the Water Pollution Control Sanitary Sewer and Sump Pump Installation Project is hereby approved.
