RESOLUTION APPROVING ADDITIONAL
NEIGHBORHOOD IMPROVEMENT PROJECT GRANT
FOR 2007/08
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS, on August 14, 2007,three Neighborhood Improvement Project(NIP) grants were
approved by the Council totaling $8,595.03; and,
WHEREAS, the Council was also informed that there were three grant applications pending
approval, one of which is the State Avenue/Arbor Street Tree Planting project; and,
WHEREAS,there are two main goals of the NIP: 1)to strengthen a neighborhood's appearance
with the addition of permanent physical improvements,and 2)to promote a greater sense of community
through resident participation in a neighborhood project; and,
WHEREAS, after a follow-up meeting with the applicant and landscape architect assisting the
neighborhood with this project to work out tree placement and species, the City Review Panel now
recommends that the State Avenue Arbor Street Tree Planting project grant application be approved for
funding; and,
WHEREAS,requested City funding is$5,000,and the applicants are providing$609 in cash and
materials donations and in-kind contributions in the amount of$4,650.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,that
the expenditure of $5,000 to fund the State Avenue/Arbor Street Tree Planting Neighborhood
Improvement Project is hereby approved.
ADOPTED THIS 28`' day of August, 2007.
