RESOLUTION SUPPORTING AMES AS THE SITE
FOR THE 2008 MIDWEST RENEWABLE ENERGY CONFERENCE
FOR THE CITY OF AMES
WHEREAS,advances in renewable energy are important as well as the forums for dissemination
of information pertaining to new and existing renewable energy technologies; and,
WHEREAS, for the past two years, Columbia Water and Light, in cooperation with the
University of Missouri and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, has put on a Midwest
Renewable Energy Conference in Columbia, Missouri, to spotlight latest developments in wind,
efficiency, biomass, and solar technologies; and,
WHEREAS,in an effort to make the event meaningful to a Midwestern audience,it was felt the
event should be conducted in other communities,and Ames volunteered to sponsor the 2008 event;and,
WHEREAS,staff felt Ames is an excellent choice for a conference due to its location,availability
of top-notch meeting facilities, and the ability to bring together the Iowa Association of Municipal
Utilities, City of Ames Electric Services, Iowa State University, and the Iowa Department of Natural
Resources; and,
WHEREAS,the event is planned to be held the week of March 24, 2008, and it is expected the
event will rotate between locations and that Ames will host the event every third year; and,
WHEREAS, staff sees the event as fitting with the Council's goal for Ames to be an
environmentally progressive City, and it feels the event to be in line with Ames' "Cool City"initiative.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Ames, Iowa,that
the support of Ames as the site of the 2008 Midwest Renewable Energy Conference is hereby approved,
and Electric Services staff is directed to coordinate the planning of the event with a budget of$6,500.
ADOPTED THIS 28tt' day of August, 2007.
